Accomplishments
Chris Cavanaugh, Human Performance Technology and Community Engagement, has
been accepted to participate at the Oxford Round Table and to present
her research paper "Helping Overcome Poverty through Education (HOPE)"
in Oxford, England in July 2008. The focus of this summer's Oxford
Roundtable is on "Child Poverty: Educational Initiatives and
Consequences." Cavanaugh's paper will provide an overview of public
education sectors from middle school to college/university in the
United States that are implementing career academies and other related
pipeline educational strategies that redefine vocational education in
an effort to create talent and provide a viable opportunity for at-risk
children growing up in poverty.
Ali Penton,
Human Resources/Information Technology Services, presented "Salary
Planner - How to Set it Up" at the SunGard Summit held April 14 in
Anaheim, Calif. The SunGard Summit is an annual event that brings
Banner users from around the world together to learn about the features
of the product and to share their experiences with each other. Penton’s
presentation showed attendees how to set up the validation and rule
forms that are required for implementing and using Salary Planner
within Banner HR and Employee Self-Service.
Ray Uzwyshyn, University Libraries (http://library.uwf.edu),
has been awarded the Emerald Publishing Group 2008 Award for Excellence
for his research article titled "Multimedia Visualization and
Interactive Systems: Drawing Board Possibilities and Server Realities –
A Cuban Rafter Paradigm Case" published in "Library High Tech" in
winter 2007. The award winning research paper was chosen by a group of
eminent academics and journal editors from across a spectrum of
disciplines as the academic publisher’s outstanding research paper for
2007. It had been cited by the team as a brilliant visionary
recipe - a cross-disciplinary work of both pragmatic research and new
possibilities. The piece was originally written as the thematic article
for a special issue of "Library High Tech" on "3D Information
Visualization," edited by Brad Eden, University of California Santa
Barbara. Uzwyshyn's original research was based on pragmatic
methodologies for digital library possibility and a larger online
project completed with Holly Ackerman (Duke University) for the
University of Miami Libraries in 2005 and can be viewed online at http://balseros.miami.edu.
