ENDECA SATELITE
Report Explanation

The Endeca Information Access Platform comes with a report of log data that includes a summary of the requests sent to the Endeca search engine. These reporting categories are based on the native functionality of Endeca in general (for example "Top Single Dimension Selected") as well as the specific configuration of the SUL implementation of Endeca (for example, that the top dimension selected is "Format").

Request and Sessions

Request and Session Summary

Total Number of Requests - the count of requests handled by the system during the reporting period.

Total Number of Unique Sessions - the number of times that a new session key is assigned to a user's search session. A new key is assigned whenever the session times out, or the user clicks 'end session'.

Requests by Type

Search-Only Requests - the number of times where a search request is made, but the user never selects a refinement dimension.

Navigation-Only Requests - the number of session where the user performs a request without entering a search term (clicks the search button without entering a search term) and then optionally selects refinement dimensions to achieve a final result set.

Search-Then-Navigate Requests - the number of times where the user enters a search query and then selects refinement dimensions to achieve a final result set.

Root Requests - a request where the N-value equals 0. This can not be done in the individual library catalogs without changing the URL manually. If the N-value = 0, you are effectively searching the Union Catalog. Therefore, root requests can only be made in the Union Catalog.

Record Requests - the number of times that only a single record is requested. This includes when records on the patron’s kept records list are viewed, or when records are sent to RefWorks.

Dimension Values

Requests with One, Two, Three, or Four+ Dimension Values - the number of times a query is made along with a single dimension value. This can be done on the Advanced Search form.

Popular Searches

Top Search Keys - The number of times a query is made using a search key or combination of search keys. In the report, the multiple search key combinations are separated with a pipe (|). Multiple search keys can be searched using the Advanced Search form.

Top Search Terms (Across All Keys and Modes) - The top 100 search terms used during the reporting period. Searches that are performed by catalog functions such as RSS feeds and list adding are included in these counts.

Top Search Terms / Key - The top 100 search terms listed by the search key used.

Conversion Rate for Top Search Terms - The top 100 search terms listed with the conversion rate. The Conversion rate is the ratio of the number of requests for the record (as displayed in the brief record view) and the number of times a request to view the full record is made.

Popular Navigation

Top Single Dimensions Selected - The number of sessions where a single refinement dimension is used to narrow down the result set.

Conversion Rate for Top Dimensions - A ratio of the Top Single Dimensions Selected and the number of times that the full record view in that result set is retrieved.

Top Single Dimension Values Selected - The top 100 refinement dimension values that are selected where only a single refinement dimension is used to narrow the result set. (If ‘Material Type’ is the refinement dimension, then ‘Book’ could be a refinement dimension value.)

Top Dimensions Pairs Selected - The number of sessions where two refinement dimensions are used to narrow down the result set.

Top Dimension Value Pairs Selected - The top 100 refinement dimension values that are selected where two refinement dimensions are used to narrow the result set.

Top Dimension Triples Selected - The number of sessions where three refinement dimensions are used to narrow down the result set.

Top Dimension Value Triples Selected - The top 100 refinement dimension values that are selected where three refinement dimensions are used to narrow the result set.

Popular Records

Top Records - The top 100 records that are retrieved across all session during the reporting period.

Spell Correction and Alternate Suggestions

Number of Search Requests Returning No Results - the number of times zero results are returned as a result of a query.

Number of Search Requests Autocorrected - the number of time that the system autocorrects a misspelled search term.

Number of Search Requests with Alternate Suggestions - the number of times that the system returns a “did you mean” suggestion as a result of a query that returns too few results.

Number of Alternate Suggestions Selected by User - the number of times that the user clicks on the “did you mean” suggestion to retrieve a result set.

Top Search Terms Returning No Results - the top 100 queries entered that returned zero results.

Top Autocorrected Search Terms with Correction - top 100 search terms that the system automatically corrected to a search term that would retrieve a result set, with the autocorrected term that was provided for the query.

Top Search Terms with Alternate Suggestions - the top 100 search terms that resulted in a “did you mean” suggestion, with the suggestion that was provided to the user.

Sorting

Top Sort Keys Specified - Number of requests with sort key specified, broken down by the sort key that was specified.
